Where most women spend countless afternoons wedding dress shopping and always tend to go over budget, Miranda Lambert knew from the start what wedding dress she wanted to wear. Her mom's. Lambert's parents have been married for a long time and she thinks that the dress functions as a good luck charm. Therefore, by wearing the Gunne Sax gown, she kicks off her own marriage with a dose of good luck too. After trying on the dress, she told her mother: "I'm not even going to try another dress on. This is it Mom. There’s no other dress that would fit me better or mean more to me than this dress."
The dress had been tucked away in a closet for over 30 years, but was in a perfect state, so apart from adding a small train of the same fabric at the end, Lambert left the dress untouched. Fun fact: at the barnyard reception the couple displayed photos of their family, including one of Lambert's mother in the spaghetti-strap, off-white gown on her own wedding day.
