So the word is that the streets are about to get a little crazy after 12-thousand inmates are due to be released because of some kind of mix up within crack and cocaine drug laws. I am like this has to be a joke because that is too many people to be released. I am nervous to think about what is going to occur when these inmates are released.
"CNN reports that thousands of prison inmates convicted of crack cocaine charges will be released early due to sentencing changes easing the disparity between the penalties for possessing or distributing crack vs. powder.
Congress passed the Fair Sentencing Act in August 2010, changing the 100-to-1 disparity between minimum sentences for crack and powder cocaine to 18 to 1. The U.S. Sentencing Commission voted this summer to make the reduced crack penalties retroactive, which means more than 12,000 current inmates are eligible to request reduced sentences."
